By Jane Eayre Fryer

As with all the other Mary Frances story-instruction books, the Mary Frances First Aid Book aims to interest children with a delightful story which is used as a means for conveying information of great and lasting value—impressing it on their minds in such a way that it will always be remembered.

Mary Frances' dolls become the instruments for teaching the fundamental remedies as might be required for most accidents or emergencies encountered in life's adventures.

With doll characters such as Doctor Surecure, nurse Miss Bossem and patients Ima Brave and Shesa Brave, a wide range of remedies are taught, from how to eliminate fleas to how to make and apply various bandages as well as a mustard plaster. The reader will learn about the "old-fashioned" remedies of Castor Oil, Witch Hazel, and Iodine, as well as learn about everyday sanitation and germs and cleanliness.

Assistant nurse, Miss Helpem (Mary Frances) includes in her lessons the importance of safety and preventative measures.

This book tells what to do in case of an accident or sudden illness, and teaches the value of presence of mind in emergencies in and outside the home. It is also a simplified hand reference book for grown people in cases of accidents, and contains a ready-reference list of remedies for emergencies, including directions for first aid in cases of burns, scalds, cuts, wounds, fainting, dislocations, broken bones, etc.

In the Preface, the author writes, "This book is more than a story to inspire children with a desire to relieve suffering; it is a simplified and handy reference book, telling what to do in cases of accident or illness. In no sense is it intended to take the place of the physician. The first principle of first-aid cannot too often be repeated—when in doubt, send for the doctor." —Jane Eayre Fryer

Originally published in 1916, this book is the fifth of the Mary Frances instructional story books which were designed to teach useful things in an entertaining way.

Attractively and practically illustrated.

Please note that the Mary Frances books are written in a fairytale style, and are not necessarily from a Christian perspective. We sell this collection because we believe it offers a creative and rich source for learning many nearly-forgotten homemaking and first aid skills.
